UPV Students shine in Hackathons held at WUT

The students Andrea Almiñana García, Miguel Rodríguez Fuentes, Paula Martínez Pardo, and María Estruch Sánchez represented the Universitat Politècnica de València in two technological challenges at Warsaw, Poland.

In an outstanding demonstration of innovation and teamwork, four UPV students recently participated in two prestigious Hackathons organized by ENHANCE Alliance and held at WUT (May 23-26, 2024): Smart City Challenge and BioHackathon. The event brought together diverse students from all member universities of the alliance to tackle real-world problems and create innovative solutions. By offering projects based on interesting and new ideas, teams competed for first place, which guaranteed them a prize of €2,000.

Smart City Challenge. With a total of 48 hours, the objective of this challenge was to develop creative solutions for smart city initiatives. Through the creation of teams of up to five students, transdisciplinarity and academic-cultural exchange were encouraged to generate even more innovative ideas.

BioHackathon. With the clear idea of addressing biotechnological problems related to industry, participants were encouraged to put their knowledge into practice to develop innovative solutions. In addition, the event included the active participation of a scientific advisory board, which provided valuable input for developing innovative solutions.

Among the winners of the event, our student Miguel Rodríguez Fuentes was part of the first-place winning team in the BioHackathon, with a project called “Processing cigarette butts into hyaluronic acid.”

This event not only encouraged and recognized the university talent of the students belonging to ENHANCE Alliance but also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration with a spectacular approach to solving current and highly complex problems. Thus, from ENHANCE Alliance at UPV, we are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students and look forward to continue supporting their academic and professional future.
