The UPV Podcast “Tsundoku. Books and Literature” has published its second edition. The director and presenter, Celia Marín (journalist of the Communication Area of the UPV), recovers in this edition, the presentation of the first novel by José Luis Sastre. He is a Valencian radio journalist who works in Cadena Ser. The presentation of his first novel, “Las frases robadas”, took place within the initiative “Leer conCiencia” and gathered more than 300 people. At the event, Sastre spoke with a great sense of humor about his first book, and about what reading and radio represent for him.
The UPV Library collaborates with a section. This time, one of our librarians recommends “The Burning Library” by Susan Orlean. This book helps us to be aware of the importance of public libraries in the life of societies and people. In the same way that the flames destroyed the memory of the Los Angeles Public Library in 1986, in Valencia, recently, the water of the DANA swept away many libraries.
“When a library disappears, we don’t just lose paper and ink, we lose part of our identity, an essential tool for education and equal opportunity.”
“To lose a library, is to lose a piece of humanity.”
“To protect libraries is to protect what we were, what we are and what we will be.”
In addition to the audio of Sastre’s act and the library section, the podcast includes literary recommendations from readers.
