In the 2024 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) Clarivate Analytics has implemented significant changes that simplify the evaluation and comparison of academic journals. This year, consolidated categories and unified rankings have been introduced for 229 scientific and social fields, which now include journals from the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). This approach allows each journal to be placed in the context of all journals in its category in the Web of Science Core Collection, providing a comprehensive and holistic view for the evaluation of a journal’s performance. These changes aim to facilitate informed decisions both for researchers deciding where to send their manuscripts and for editors managing journal portfolios, enhancing transparency and quality in scholarly evaluation.
