Exhibition: “POVERTY AND SHELTER”.

The Universitat Politècnica de València presents POVERTY AND SHELTER. This project explores the possibilities of the photographic image as a tool for social denunciation, and proposes to promote access to the collections of the University Library in order to build a more critical image of the structural causes of poverty and inequality, the need for asylum or the lack of decent housing.
The sensitivity and delicacy of Jordi Oliver’s photography gives us a glimpse of the people behind these processes, which make increasingly large groups of our society vulnerable.
The project, organized as part of the call GLOCAL 2023 of the Cooperation Centerof the UPV, consists of three exhibitions of Jordi Oliver two workshops and a conference:
- “FANG” The exhibition will focus on the situation of refugees in the European camps of Calais and Dunkirk. From May 12th to June 16th, 2023. Space n-1 of the UPV
- “GYPSY SOUL” The strength of the gypsies through their music and their way of life. From May 12th to June 16th, 2023. Space n-1 of the UPV
- “UNDER THE BRIDGE” about the problematic of homeless people sheltered in the highway of Badalona as the only possible living space. From May 12th to June 16th, 2023.
- Documentary photography workshop for migrants The lectures will be given by Jordi Oliver, on Saturday May 13th and Saturday May 20th at the UPV’s Space n-1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Workshop on Sources of Information and Resources on Cooperation and Development” The lecture will be given by Paloma Cerdá, librarian of the UPV (day, time and place to be determined).
- A conference on “Ethics of Photography“Jordi Oliver will develop on May 18th at 12.30 pm in the space n-1 of the UPV.
The FANG exhibition has been realized with the support of Bibliotecas de Barcelona and various organizations such as JARIT and SOM LLAR support the proposal.
