Exhibition “BAJOUCA. Life as a support for the work”.
From September 2 to 13, 2022 Ximo Mora Hall. Casa de l’Alumne UPV Curator: Elia Bernardos
International exhibition on the SDGs, through the program Saudáveis Neighborhoodsin a social housing project by João Álvaro Rocha in Portugal.
The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the relevance of the architectural work in all its dimension, emphasizing good practices and the importance of architecture in the construction of the urban environment, to promote a critical awareness of urban transformation, motivating citizens to demand increasingly qualified and resilient public spaces and to cooperate for their development and maintenance.
We invite the entire university community to promote an education that eliminates the stigma of ‘social neighborhood’ and promotes integration. We want to show this example to the neighbors of our Valencian neighborhoods, so that they can ask for support and recognize themselves as protagonists of change. We present to the professionals involved in the whole process described in the exhibition (architects, gardeners, doctors, sociologists, teachers, cleaners, etc., …. ) the importance of working together and dialogue, to make them aware of the impact of their decisions on neighborhood life and to highlight the value of their work. We encourage associations, professional collectives and university departments to sow the seed and share their knowledge by coordinating a cooperation project in a neighborhood.
The exemplary value of the project and the recognition of its transforming capacity as a social catalyst, have earned the group of residents of Bairro da Bajouca, promoted and supported by APJAR, to be beneficiaries of the project promoted by the Portuguese Government, Bairros Saudáveis, financed with European funds destined to the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR) program.
The academic importance of the project and its didactic interest, are supported by the research funded by the Ministry of Universities within the FPU 2019 Program that is being carried out at the UPV, with the Bairro da Bajouca as the object of study in the doctoral thesis on the work of the architect João Rocha.
