[2019-20] 26th Novembre Jazz Festival UPV

This year the Novembre festival presents different contrasts: youth versus veteran, classic jazz versus experimental jazz, Valencian or even Mediterranean roots jazz versus international jazz. The guitarist Carlos Gonzálbez and the saxophonist Ximo Caffarena are two of the pioneers of our jazz, who began to practice it more than forty years ago and served as a reference to the new generations. Gonzálbez maintains his initial commitment to a refined jazz, which rests on the standard repertoire, bebop language and the values of improvisation. Caffarena soon became interested in traditional Valencian music and continues to recreate it, leading his group, with imaginative arrangements elaborated from the world of jazz.

Ales Cesarini is one of the most active and sought-after double bass players of our scene. His most personal music has an unclassifiable accomplice, the singer Payoh Soul Rebel, with whom he delves into a rich world of hybridizations, from reggae to electronica. The trio NES is one of the sensations of recent Valencian music. An initiative of cellist Matthieu Saglio, creator of the group Jerez-Texas, it relies on the magnetic voice of Nesrine Belmokh to delve into paths of soul, jazz or French song. Finally, MAP is made up of three of the most dynamic musicians with the most personality on the Spanish scene: saxophonist Ernesto Aurignac, pianist Marco Mezquida and drummer Ramón Prats. Their music goes from torrential expression to the most delicate lyricism, always unpredictable and powerful.
