The seminar “Public Art Dialogues” proposes to explore a series of debates around the practice of public art.

During the seminar we will talk with Alba Braza -commissioner and coordinator of cultural projects and artistic mediation, including the Piazza dell’Immaginario, the Biennal de Mislata Miquel Navarro, and the Mostra “Art Públic / universitat pública”- and with a series of artists who develop their practice in the public sphere, such as Estelle Jullian.
Together with them and the seminar attendees, we will propose a series of debates that seek to explore the public aspect of art.

Some of the questions that we will propose during the seminar are the following: what is public art, who is it for, whose interests does it respond to, what is its role, who should finance it, what is its marketwhat is your publicWhat are the challenges of its realization and curatorship, what are the implications of digitalization for its practice?

We will finish by reflecting on some proposals generated by artists who develop their practice in the public sphere, to later propose a series of tools oriented to the presentation of works to contests or public art exhibitions.

Program:

The seminar “Public Art Dialogues” will be held during a session divided into two parts.
In the first part of the seminar, we invite curators and artists to propose a series of discussions and debates on public art; in the second part of the seminar, they will be open to the public in order to establish a joint dialogue.

Finally, we will close the seminar with a review of the main public art initiatives in the Valencian Community.
