When we look back, from the work Retrato de familia (2008), to our latest project Yo soy (2018), with the recovery of the memory of women who were shaved during Franco’s regime, we see that the approach to the theme of memory has always been a constant that has had its necessary presence, both in our work and in our life.
Beyond a mere return to the past, the reading is done from the present, from a present that is affected by a traumatic past, not only to the people directly involved, but also to later generations. Under our gaze, we have the power to transform memory in order to heal it.
That is why the works shown in this exhibition are symbolic acts that modify the past story for a new one that crosses generations, creating a present discourse with a present language that transfers experiences and knowledge to new generations.
