The UPV opens the Art al Quadrat exhibition “Stories from the transgenerational memory”, open to the public at the Rectorate until July 28th.
“It is an exhibition that tries to address how past experiences affect the present generations, and how we can modify the memory of the past from the present”.
This is how Mónica del Rey Jordá, curator together with her twin sister Gemma, explains the exhibition “Stories from the transgenerational memory”, inaugurated today at the UPV Exhibition Hall located in the Rectorate building (Vera campus, Valencia), where it will remain open to the public until July 28th.
Installations, audiovisuals, photographs and objects
The exhibition, carried out under the seal of Art al Quadrat -a collective formed in 2002 by the twins born in Sagunto on August 2nd, 1982, graduated in Fine Arts and with a master’s degree in Artistic Production from the UPV- includes installations, audiovisuals, photographs and objects.
Through it all, the viewer takes a journey that begins with Family portrait (2008) and ends with his latest project, I am (2018). During the journey, the situation of women during the Civil War and the post-war period is analyzed, “recovering the memory of women shaved for public scorn”.
“Starting from the experiences of our own family, we have reached out to those of other families. We work with people directly affected and/or their descendants: how did our grandparents experience that time, how did they pass it on to our parents, and how did they pass it on to us, are elements that we have taken into account when working,” adds Mónica del Rey.
Opening hours
The exhibition, organized by the Cultural Activities Department of the UPV, is open to anyone interested and can be visited from Monday to Friday, both in the morning (10 am to 2 pm) and in the afternoon (5 pm to 8 pm).
