This year’s festival is a monographic showcase of jazz made by women in Spain, which is increasingly booming. The spectator will see a panorama of diverse styles, with the presence of current jazz, avant-garde and elements of traditional music, as well as instruments, from percussion to piano and voice. The collaboration between artists from different countries is already a constant in our jazz scene, fully cosmopolitan, and this festival will be a new opportunity to prove it.
On the 29th the singer Celia Mur presents for the first time in public her latest project (and next album), a tribute to the Brazilian guitarist and composer Roberto Menescal, promoter of the so-called bossa nova. For this project Mur, one of the most outstanding jazz singers of our scene, has the collaboration of vibraphonist Arturo Serra leading an instrumental quartet. Kontxi Lorente is an excellent pianist from Navarre, essential in the Valencian scene in recent years, heir to the mainstream of contemporary piano after Bill Evans. In this concert she is accompanied by Ales Cesarini and Borja Barrueta, with whom she recorded her last album;About mea collection of original themes where her strength and melodic sense are striking. Irene Aranda, also a pianist, trained in the world of free improvisation and has been delving into an increasingly risky and radical pianism. Her new trio, with Johannes Nästesjö on double bass and Núria Andorrà on percussion, presents a project entitled Inner corewhich refers to the earth’s core, a solid sphere composed of iron, nickel and other heavy minerals at very high temperatures.
The festival will be closed by Lucía Martínez, a percussionist based in Berlin who combines improvisational music with the creation of film soundtracks. A Novembre comes with her quartet, together with three young musicians from Oporto, a proposal where jazz is combined with the Galician-Portuguese musical tradition. This is the content of his albumOf wind and saltThe film, magnificently received by the critics.
