In 1995 the UPV showed its Fons d’Art Contemporani to the public for the first time at the Centre del Carme -then a sub-site of the IVAM- and now, 25 years later, the University is exhibiting part of the museum’s collection to coincide with its 30th anniversary, highlighting the institutional relationship and the importance of the heritage shared by all Valencians.
“La col-lecció de l’IVAM a la UPV” brings together a selection of 47 works by 29 artists, all of them professors of the Faculty of Fine Arts and the School of Architecture of the UPV, which cover five decades of the Valencian art scene showing paintings, sculptures, photography, works on paper and installations that are distributed among the exhibition halls of Rectorado and Josep Renau without following a strict chronological criterion, but allowing the works to dialogue with each other through their times, techniques and themes.
The exhibition reviews the transition from the seventies to the present through the artistic and creative work of the UPV faculty, as an extension of their teaching work in the classroom, making visible an institutional relationship that is also developed through the Chair of Artistic Studies. Siglos XX/XXI and the experience of the IVAM Workshops -encounters between students and the artists who exhibit there- giving continuity to other initiatives and complicities that have brought the museum closer to the University and also its faculty and students to the exhibitions and activities of the IVAM throughout its three decades of history.
