The Universitat Politècnica de València hosts the largest exhibition in Spain on the history of digital imaging, consoles and video games.
The exhibition, developed by renowned international new media expert Abraham San Pedro, brings together over seventy historic consoles, from the first console in history, the Magnavox Odyssey1972, until the PlayStation 2The best-selling console of 2001, the best-selling console in history, along with such gems of videogame history as the Atari 2600the Coleco Telstarthe Commodore 64 or the Amstrad CPC 64, accompanied by a large number of games played on their original hardware, as well as a selection of television advertising for consoles from 1972 to 2003.
The visitor will also learn about the fundamental works of digital imaging, from the first scanned photograph to the first digital animation, tracing a historical journey from the first war applications of digital imaging to its democratization by the hand of the consoles to the current society;gamified.
On the other hand, among the artists included in the exhibition are world-renowned key figures in the history of digital art, such as A. Michael Noll, Georg Ness, Frieder Nake, Herbert Franke, Kenneth Knowlton, Edward Zajac, Ivan Sutherland, Stan VanderBeek, Computer Technique Group Japan, John Whitney, Manuel Barbadillo, Manfred Mohr or Nelson L. Max.
During the time the exhibition is at the UPV, its digital version can be visited through the web consolasimagendigital.org with all the audiovisual content present in the exhibition and extra material not present in the room.
