When more than a century has passed since the birth of cinema, when the recurrent announcements about its death have been overcome, it seems evident that cinema is still more alive than ever in this new century. SYMPTOMS OF A CERTAIN CONTEMPORANEITY: CINEMA(S) IN THE 21st CENTURY aims to scrutinize, in a transversal and non-canonical way, which audiovisual forms are being elaborated by certain contemporary filmmakers in order to, from different perspectives -both aesthetically and geographically- question the everlasting problem of cinema: how to understand the complex world we inhabit from the moving image?
