The universities of the Valencian Community and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation join forces once again in UniEsport 2024
- The objective of this alliance is to make university sports more visible.
- The main focus of the aid is on athletes: rewarding their academic and sporting activity, covering part of their tuition fees and supporting them in major international university competitions.
Valencia, May 13, 2024.The universities of the Valencian Community and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation have renewed their commitment to promote university sports through the Uniesport initiative. This is a project that is now in its eighth year and in which the nine entities will continue to collaborate on projects that help promote and encourage sport at the university level.
The signing of the collaboration agreements was staged at the facilities of the Catholic University of Valencia and was attended by the rectors and representatives of all the universities of the Valencian Community.
Through this agreement, the Universities and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation will continue to collaborate for the development of university sport in all its areas and to raise awareness in society and athletes about the importance of reconciling sport and studies. The ultimate goal is to make university sport more visible, on the one hand, and for its athletes to be ambassadors of the Valencian Community. For this reason, they will continue to wear the Comunitat de l’Esport brand on their kits during the Spanish and international championships in which they participate.
The agreement was signed this morning in a ceremony held at the Catholic University of Valencia. It was attended by the rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), José Esteban Capilla Romá, the Vice Chancellor of Culture and Sports of the University of Alicante (UA) Catalina Iliescu Gherghiu, the rector of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Eva Alcón Soler, the rector of the UMH, Juan José Ruiz Martínez, the rector of the CEU Cardenal Herrera University (CEU-UCH), Higinio Marín Pedreño, the rector of the Catholic University of Valencia San Vicente Mártir (UCV), José Manuel Pagán Agulló and the director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, Juan Miguel Gómez.
The collaboration agreement is articulated along several lines: first, to help young university students who, while pursuing higher education, are able to maintain a high sports performance; second, to provide more tools to increase the visibility of the CADU; third, to promote the Comunitat de l’Esport brand through aid for the purchase of sports equipment for university athletes; and fourth, to financially support university athletes who participate in international competitions. In addition, as usual, the Foundation presided by Juan Roig will provide financial support to athletes of the FER Project who are pursuing official undergraduate, master’s or doctoral studies.
Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards
Finally, the “VIII Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards for University Athletes” will once again be announced; specific awards for athletes with brilliant academic records. As in previous years, there will be an annual call for one male and one female award in each of the 8 universities for those athletes who combine their sports careers with their university studies. In total, 16 students will be awarded 1,000 euros and a commemorative plaque will be given to each of them. Also, in parallel, two Extraordinary Awards (best student and student athlete) will be announced annually for the best academic records that have completed their studies at one of the seven universities. The award will consist of 2,000 euros and a commemorative plaque. The Foundation will be responsible for paying the prize money.
