UPV Sports Gala

The Sports Department celebrates the Sports Gala annually to recognize the sporting merits of the season of UPV athletes, as well as to highlight individuals or entities that have excelled in the field of sports and have been promoters of the values that are inherent to sport.

Honorary Athletes UPV

To give public recognition to the sports work of individuals, organizations, public institutions and private entities that have contributed in a notorious way to the promotion of sports practice and the promotion and development of sports, and who also stand out for their humanistic merits related to sports and their contribution to the educational and formative values of sports in the university environment, spirit of solidarity, dedication, integration, teamwork, self-improvement, equality and respect.

Julia Miñana, Honorary Sportswoman of the UPV

Big day for sports at the Universitat Politècnica de València. On Friday, June 9  from 12.15, began the II Sports Gala in the Alfons Roig Auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts  of the UPV. The event is hosted by journalist Javier Lázaro.

This year the own name is put by the sailor Julia Miñana, a student of Biomedical Engineering able to combine her academic obligations with the sporting demands of the highest level.

Julia Miñana has studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Diseño and is currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Computational Fluid Mechanics.

In the sporting field, she was recently proclaimed Autonomous University Champion in 2023, and won silver in the modality of swan 42 in Palma in ORC-0 class, 2nd National Legue Swan and 4th position in the  Championship of 44RC 2023. The 2022 season obtained  1st position in Palma, 3rd position in the Copa del Rey,  3rd position in the  World Championship  and  Champion  of Spain university, among other merits.

At the gala, the new equipment of the UPV Sports Club, recently created to promote sports associations through federated sports practiced by students and staff of the UPV, was presented. Its objective is also to collaborate to project the image of the UPV in society.

In addition, there will be a recognition to all the students who have won medals in the Regional and Spanish University Championships and who have been part of the UPV teams representing the university in official competitions.

Recognition of emeritus athletes of the UPV

Then came the recognition of people of recognized sporting prestige at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Carlos García López, retired and active athlete and Ángel Benito Beorlegui, reference and head of sports at the UPV for decades.

Talk by Leonor Gallardo  and subsequent colloquium on motivation in sport

Then, the Vice Rector of Coordination, Communication and Promotion of the University of Castilla la Mancha, Leonor Gallardo, gave a motivational talk followed by a three-way colloquium on sports motivation.

I Sports Gala. 2022

On June 27 Hugo Guillamón sponsored UPV Sport 2021-2022 and will be proposed to the Governing Council for distinction as an Honorary Athlete of the UPV. He is a Valencia C.F. soccer player and studies Biomedical Engineering at the UPV.

Big day for sports at the Universitat Politècnica de València. On Monday, June 27, starting at 12.00 noon, the Sports Gala will begin in the auditorium of the UPV. Hugo Guillamón is a student of Biomedical Engineering who has been able to combine his studies and debut with the Spanish national soccer team.

Hugo Guillamón has been trained at the VCF Academy, he is a versatile player who can play as a central midfielder and as a central defender depending on the needs of the team. He made his debut with the first team in February 2020. He is a full international with Spain. Honors: – UEFA U17 Championship (2017) – UEFA U19 Championship (2019). In March this year he made his debut with the senior Spanish national team, as a starter, in the friendly match Spain-Iceland.

At the gala, the UPV Sports Club was presented, which has recently been created to promote sports associations through federated sports practiced by students and staff of the UPV. Its objective is also to collaborate in projecting the image of the UPV in society. It incorporates adapted sport modalities to respond to the social commitment of the Politècnica de València as an integrating engine.

The UPV Sports Club has teams in Men’s and Women’s Handball, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Football, Rugby, Water Polo, Chair Cycling, A-ball, Trail Alcoi and Roller Hockey. In addition to the sections of Underwater Activities, Cheerleading, Athletics, Cycling, Mountain, Swimming, Orienteering, Valencian Chair Pilota, Archery, Triathlon and sailing.

There was also a recognition to all the students who have won medals in the Autonomous and Spanish University Championships and who have been part of the UPV teams representing the university in official competitions.

Talk by Joseba del Carmen and colloquium with Pedro Morata and Guillamón

Next, Joseba del Carmen, mentor, executive sports coach and team trainer will give a motivational talk. He is an entrepreneur and will share his experience as a professional golfer and basketball player and the importance of the values of sports.

And to end the gala, the journalist Pedro Morata, Joseba del Carmen and Hugo led a colloquium.
