During the development of the subject “Design for Leisure and Habitat” of the fourth year of the “Degree in Industrial Design Engineering and Product Development” and coordinated by Professor José Miguel Abarca, the students have had the opportunity to develop a project at a professional level thanks to the direct participation of the national furniture company “Systemtronic”. Systemtronic, a Spanish manufacturer of office furniture, contract furniture and accessories, has supervised the work of a total of 54 students during the first four-month period of this course.
Two different development briefings have been proposed by the company to our students. On the one hand, the design and development of an auxiliary storage furniture, and on the other hand, the design and development of a standing coat rack whose manufacture was focused on minimizing processes and costs.
Ilena Pareja, General Manager and product manager at Systemtronic, together with María Salcedo, industrial designer within the company’s own team and former student of this school, have supervised over three control sessions, both the design and the development and evolution of the proposals carried out by the students.
Finally, after four months of work, the final presentation of a total of twelve different projects took place on January 16.
We appreciate the participation of Systemtronic as well as its involvement in the supervision of the development of these proposals, which have allowed our future designers to have direct contact with a reference company in its sector, allowing them to live an experience close to the reality of design.
