The Giménez Lorente Foundation is an educational, cultural, scientific and research organization dedicated to the study of cartographic and bibliographic collections and Cartographic Engineering. It also organizes exhibitions of its collections, carries out publications, promotes monthly cultural activities, and teaches in order to disseminate the legacy of its founder and contribute to the enrichment of art and knowledge.
Since June 2003, when the agreement was signed by which the collector and cartographer Luis Giménez Lorente donated his collections to the UPV, committing the latter to safeguard them, maintain them in their integrity, increase them, disseminate them and promote their interest, the work of the Foundation that bears his name -constant and rigorous-, has always encouraged the fulfillment of this legacy.
In a university environment where the most advanced engineering techniques are the driving force behind the most modern cartographic practices, the custody of these valuable art collections, origin and testimony of how man has represented the world around him over the centuries, gives reason, perspective and meaning to the scientific evolution that faces future challenges of knowledge.
The objective of the Giménez Lorente Foundation is to disseminate through conferences, round tables, guided tours, meetings and exhibitions on cartography, art and history, the value of the culture that emanates from the desire to know and understand the origin, past and future of the world we inhabit.
The collection can be enjoyed virtually on the foundation’s website:
