On February 24, 2025, we formally inaugurated the cartography exhibition, which will be on display in the hall of our school until March 20.
This is an exhibition to commemorate one of the world’s greatest odysseys. The first circumnavigation of the Earth in the 16th century, which was equivalent to the later arrival of man on the Moon. The expedition of Magellan and Elcano proved that the Earth was round and was significant because it opened new trade routes with the discovery of new lands.
The world was never the same after this expedition: 239 men and five ships left Seville in 1519 in search of a western route to the Spice Route. Three years later, only 18 men and one ship returned after circumnavigating the globe.
There are 35 reproductions of maps of the time, thanks to the collaboration with the National Geographic Institute of the Ministry of Development. Among the cartography, the Framauro at the entrance and the Juan de la Cosa are worth mentioning.
The exhibition is completed with an area dedicated to spices, where the company Carmencita has provided spices from the Molucca Islands (cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon…). In addition, the Association for the Promotion of Naval Modeling has provided three models, of which a galley will be on display.
The curator of the exhibition isEmilio Forcén TárregaHe is a graduate of this school who was for years director of the Cartographic Institute of Valencia.
