More than 1,400 people participated in this emotional event that filled the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia.
On October 24, the graduation ceremony of the degrees of the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Informàtica (ETSINF) was held at the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia, organized by the ETSINF student delegation with the support of the School.
The event was attended by more than 1,400 people, including students, family members, heads of companies and institutions, faculty and staff of the School, in a day that began at 18h.
The ceremony was made possible thanks to the support of Edicom, Xplore Group, Deustche Telekom, NTT Data, Sopra Steria, Management Solutions, SollersConsulting, Inditex, Power Electronics, Telefónica, HP and Stadler,Together with the collaboration of the professional associations, Official College of Technical Engineering in Computer Science of the Valencian CommunityInformation Technology Association of the Valencian Community: Som Digitals, Official College of Librarians and Documentalists of the Comunitat Valenciana and Official College of Computer Engineering of the Valencian Region.
The table presiding over the event was made up of the academic director of the GIINF, María Engracia Gómez; the academic director of the GCD,José Hernández, the Academic Director of MUIINF, Andrés Boza; the director of the DISCA department, Juan Luis Posadas; the director of the DSIC department, Andrés Terrasa; the director of ETSINF, Silvia Terrasa and the rector, José Capilla Romá.
The rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, José CapillaHe was the one who opened the event;after the participation of the UPV Choir with the Veni Creatorwhich kicked off the ceremony. In his speech, the rector encouraged the students to tackle the challenges they now face in the stage they are beginning. José Capilla recalled the uniqueness of the UPV for, among other things, offering the student “a unique university environment in the Spanish panorama, with training and life options to enjoy a comprehensive training in line with the university of the 21st century.”
After concluding his remarks, the rector gave way to the director of the center, Silvia TerrasaTerrasa, who highlighted the role of the university stage in which it is possible to “experiment and interact with different people to, in some way, grow as people and as professionals”. Terrasa pointed out that computer science studies are becoming hegemonic in a society that has recognized the importance and relevance of key issues such as digitization and massive data management. This was followed by a speech by the godfather of this graduating class, Professor Salvador España Boquera, who in an emotional speech emphasized that teaching in the four courses of the Data Science degree has allowed him “to see the temporal evolution of the students and not the fleeting passage of a semester”. Spain stressed the importance of training as people beyond the acquisition of knowledge, something key to the work of the university and described the graduation “as a turning point from which there is no other way but to always try to be the best version of oneself, also proudly carrying his polytechnic origin”.
The event continued with the recognition of the Cajamar Cooperative Group, entity that organizes, since 2017, the Cajamar UniversityHack, the largest data analytics competition in Spain, aimed specifically at students from the best Data Science training centers in the country. Rubén Rodríguez GiménezThe Director of People and IT Talent of the technological subsidiary of the Cajamar Group stressed the importance of continuous training, as he said “in the company we face unprecedented challenges, requiring people capable of contributing with their talent to the development, management and evolution of projects towards new dimensions and, for this, it is necessary to train continuously”.
The event continued with the recognition of the best academic records of students in mobility, Alejandro Vicent Micó, Daniel Santamarina Puertas, Mohamed Aas Alas, Fernando Javier Borao Zaccheo, Jorge Jiménez García, Marta de la Cuadra Lozano y Daniel Oliver BelandoThey were recognized for their stays at Keio University, Tokyo, Japan; University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA; University of Leicester, UK; Aalto-Yliopisto, Finland; Technological University of Dublin, Ireland; and Florida International University, Florida, USA, respectively;
Then came the awards for the best records presented by the professional associations;Diego Torres Bertomeuin the Degree of Computer Engineering, Felipe Zaballa Martínezin the Double Degree in Business Administration and Computer Engineering; Lexin Zhou in the Data Science Degree, César Martín Fort Palau in the Master in Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence; Carlos Miguel Almela Seller in the Master’s Degree in Information Management and Saúl Blanco Villorejo and Miró-Manuel Matagneex aequo” in the Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering;
The student Joan Navarro BellidoThe graduating student, a graduate in Computer Engineering who is currently combining his studies in the Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering with those of the Honorary Degree in Technology Management at The Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM), was in charge of dedicating a few words on behalf of all the students just before the presentation of diplomas to all the graduates.
Subsequently, the call for the different degrees was made by ETSINF’s collaborating journalist;Mariajo Rodriguez and the student delegate of the ETSINF, Julen Garcia. For the first time in this edition, degrees were awarded to the master’s degrees of the departments linked to the School. The order in which the awards were presented was: Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity and Cyber Intelligence, Master’s Degree in Information Management, Master’s Degree in Computer and Network Engineering, Master’s Degree in Cloud and High Performance Computing, Master’s Degree in Software Systems Engineering and Technology, Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence, Shape Recognition and Digital Image, Degree in Data Science and Degree in Computer Engineering.
The School of Computer Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València is ranked in the Top 5 in Spain as the reference center to study computer engineering, data science, cryptography, artificial intelligence or information management. In addition, the School of Computer Science is ranked as the second best in Spain to study Computer Engineering, according to THE Subject Ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine.
