New exhibition in espai.inf: Rediscovering the mainframe Honeywell Bull DPS8

The Computer Science Museum of the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Informàtica of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) invites all those passionate about computer science and technological history to visit the new exhibition at espai.inf, located in building 1E. From June 3 to 30, pieces of a Honeywell Bull DPS8 mainframe will be on display, a machine that played a crucial role in enterprise computing until the last years of the 20th century, specifically until 1997.

The Honeywell Bull DPS8 mainframe is a testament to the evolution of computer technology. These gigantic computers, used primarily by large enterprises, are a reflection of the high-performance computing capabilities of a time not so long ago. With CPUs that occupied several linear meters, the DPS8 is an impressive piece of engineering that marked a milestone in the development of computing.

It is fascinating to think that the computing power of these huge machines does not exceed that of the cell phones we carry in our pockets today. This contrast highlights the dizzying technological progress we have experienced in recent decades.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for students, professionals and technology enthusiasts to get an up-close look at this jewel of computing history. Through this exhibit, visitors will gain a better understanding of how these computers worked, their impact on the industry and how they have evolved into the technologies we use today.

Don’t miss this opportunity to travel back in time and learn more about the roots of modern computing. The exhibition will be open to the public until June 30 at espai.inf, in building 1E of the UPV. We are waiting for you!
