The ETSINF UPV Advisory Board meets with the School’s director

Yesterday, June 13, the director of the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Informàtica (ETSINF) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV),Silvia Terrasaheld its annual meeting with the school’s Advisory Council to discuss issues related to the school’s strategy and future, in areas such as quality and innovation in training and the relationship between the professional and social worlds. The body is made up of renowned professionals in the field of technology, professors of reference and graduates of the School.

Yesterday, the director of the School presented the main ideas and data for the 2023-2024 academic year to the school’s Advisory Council. In her speech, Terrasa highlighted that a total of 670 students have enrolled in the school this year. More than 40% of the new students were admitted in their first choice, and the school continues to be one of the most demanded, with the largest waiting lists in the entire UPV.

In terms of academic offerings, the school offers double degrees in Computer Engineering and Business Administration and Management, Computer Engineering, and Mathematics and degrees in Computer Engineering, Data Science and Industrial Informatics and Robotics. In addition, students can opt for official master’s degrees in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence, Digital Humanities, as well as a double master’s degree MUIINF-MUCC. In-house degrees are also offered, such as the Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics and the Master’s Degree in Quantum Computing.

Terrasa highlighted the importance of collaborations with companies through chairs and business classrooms, mentioning alliances with entities such as NTT Data and Edicom, and with organizations such as the Generalitat and the Ministry, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The school’s Computer Science Museum was also a key theme of the presentation. The director highlighted initiatives to disseminate STEAM disciplines, the preservation and cataloguing of the computing heritage and the enhancement of the permanent exhibition. In addition, live broadcasts have been launched on the Twitch platform and a new Honeywell Bull DPS8 mainframe exhibit was unveiled in collaboration with ArcelorMittal.

During the academic year, two project fairs were held in December 2023 and May 2024, which showed great motivation and involvement of the student body. These fairs were very positively valued, especially by students, and represent an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and improve their soft skills, as well as serving as a recruitment platform for companies.

Finally, Silvia Terrasa presented the future proposals for the School of Computer Science. Regarding infrastructures, the creation of robotics project laboratories, the improvement of start.inf facilities and the acquisition of high capacity servers to support GCD and GIINF projects are planned. In relation to the degrees, work will be done to update the GIINF curriculum, review the contents and structure the subjects, including project subjects and promoting multidisciplinary projects among the different degrees of the center.
