Description of the title
The proposed Master’s degree creates opportunities for graduates in Interior Architectural Design, and other related fields, who wish to deepen their academic training and direct it towards professional work of greater scope. It seeks to train an expert level interior designer, with commercial vision, initiative, talent and ability to improvise, as well as creative, performative and innovative capacity.
For this purpose, we propose a master’s degree curriculum with a structure of 90 ECTS, in three semesters, which complements the training offered in the Degree in Interior Architectural Design, implemented at the UPV since 2021.
Royal Decree 633/2010 refers to Design as a strategy shaper and intermediation: “The role of design as a mediator between technology and art, culture, production and consumption is essential in today’s society”. And, on the other hand, “innovation, driven by design, design for sustainability and design for all, contribute to develop aesthetic, socially and environmentally correct solutions and promote a more responsible consumption and a new idea of well-being. Design is a determining factor in the overall management of the company to optimize resources, to point out differences and positions that make it possible to increase its efficiency and quality”.
This master is attached to the area of Engineering and Architecture, and thus its positioning aims to provide greater scope than the referred intermediation, aiming to build an articulated profession because design, innovation and creativity are more relevant both in the current competitive and globalized productivity, as in contemporary society which assumes the visual culture, the videosphere or virtuality. This makes the transformations very fast, requiring transversal profiles.
Objectives of the degree

The main objective of the Master’s degree in Interior Architectural Design is the multidisciplinary training of professionals with the ability to carry out professional projects, with commercial vision, initiative, talent and the ability to improvise and make innovative contributions.
To this end, the main training objectives of the degree are defined, which are listed below:

1.- To position the creative in the culture of his time, so that the designer has a first-class training in current cultural issues, and is able to contribute from the awareness of its temporality.
2.- To introduce the designer in the constructive and industrial processes through the knowledge of their means, systems and processes.

3.- From the subject to understand the architectural language. To understand the role of constructive syntax in the definition of space.
4.- To understand and know how to define the company’s communication policy in relation to corporate objectives, strategies, positioning, public, social and environmental responsibilities.

To provide a complete practical training in the mastery of graphic and computer tools applied to construction and interior design. To acquire the graphic skills to represent space and to communicate.
6.- To develop a professional level of project praxis. Through the project, to know how to experiment with the program, the function, the routes, the various modes of use, the relationships of the inhabitants and between them and the spaces. To understand the interaction through matter, syntax, morphology, color, light, the created environment. To provide all the material, exhibition and display solutions to achieve a project of a professional level.

Taking into account the framework of the degree within the European framework and current legislation, the general objectives of the Master in Architectural Interior Design are to comply with the European Directives on Design (creativity and innovation), the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area defined in the Bologna Declaration, the adaptation to the provisions of the aforementioned decrees that regulate it and the maintenance of the current technical capacity of the Spanish designer to perform all the functions of the interior designer profile as a profession, although sharing competencies with other regulated professions.

Master’s Thesis
The Master’s Thesis will consist of an original exercise, carried out individually and defended, in a public act, before a University Tribunal following the regulations established for this purpose by the Universitat Politècnica de València, in which the knowledge, techniques and skills acquired in the master’s degree are synthesized, with two modalities:
- In the professional modality: to elaborate a project of interior design, together with its memory documents, representation, and associated costs that develop a complete and specific professional work.
- In the research modality: to elaborate a proposal that starts from theoretical reflection but is not exempt from associated graphic and projectual work, understanding that creativity in design is not a laboratory creativity, nor a complex theoretical reflection of shallow scope, but a creativity of practical character and therefore all research should be formalized graphically including part of interior design with its own contribution. Visual culture also requires a reflection on its scope and transformative capacity.
It has a duration of 9 ECTS and is developed in semester 3.
