Description of the title
The Master’s Degree in Science, Technology and Innovation Studies is an official degree from the Universities of Oviedo (UNIOVI), Valencia Polytechnic (UPV) and Salamanca (USAL), which arises from the merger of two masters, the Social Studies of Science and Technology by the USAL and the Scientific Culture and Innovation by the UNIOVI and the UPV.
We train experts and researchers in scientific culture, politics and citizen participation and in responsible science and innovation management, who can act as mediators between R&D&I systems and society, the business fabric or the political sphere.
The Master offers three specialties:
- Innovation Studies (UPV)
- Scientific Culture (UNIOVI)
- Science and Technology Policies and Citizen Participation (USAL)
Objectives of the degree

The objective of the Master is to provide knowledge and competencies for the promotion of experts in the culture, management and policies of science, technology and innovation.

Science, Technology and Innovation are determining factors in the economic and cultural development of today’s society. This Master will provide you with an updated knowledge of the different aspects of the science, technology and innovation system, as well as the existing mechanisms of interaction with society and business.

The career opportunities for this master’s degree are diverse and span multiple sectors, offering opportunities in management, communication, mediation, policy and teaching.
- R&D Project Management: In companies, public administration departments and in the third sector (NGOs, Cooperatives, MediaLabs).

- Social Mediation among Agents: Professionals and social entrepreneurs who develop a mediation work with the business, academic and social environment.
- Science and Technology Policies: Members of the Cabinets for the study of science, technology and innovation policies in public administrations and research organizations.
- Teaching and Research: University Professors and Researchers in Social Studies of Science, Technology and Innovation

MUECTI is aimed at students from any university degree or equivalent qualification who are interested in developing a professional or research career in issues related to the culture and policy of science and innovation.

Internships
During your studies you can do external internships to get closer to the professional reality. You can do them in companies, public administrations or other organizations. You will have to find the organization where you wish to do the internship yourself. Please note that internships are not compulsory to complete the master’s degree.
Curricular
They are included in the Syllabus. The subject is optional and has 6 ECTS and, therefore, a duration of 150 hours.
Extracurricular
These are internships that students may perform on a voluntary basis during their training period and that, although they have the same purposes as the curricular internships, are not part of the corresponding Study Plan. However, they will be included in the European Diploma Supplement in accordance with the regulations in force. They shall have a maximum duration of 40% of the duration of the degree. In no case may they exceed 600 hours.
Research and access to Ph.
The MUECTI is considered as a master’s degree related to the Doctoral Program in Design, Manufacturing and Industrial Process Management of the UPV.

The Master’s Degree in Science, Technology and Innovation Studies is an interuniversity master’s degree in which the following participate:

Master’s Thesis
The Master’s Thesis (TFM) consists of 12 ECTS credits. It must be prepared individually and must demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired during the teaching period.
The work will consist of the elaboration of an original research that will be presented in the form of a scientific article with the structure and format of this type of articles according to the journals in the field of social studies on science, technology and innovation or similar.
Once the TFM has been deposited, it must be defended orally before an examining board.
The TFM can only be deposited and defended once all the subjects of the Master have been passed.
