Description of the title

The social and labor reality requires the application of scientific and technological advances to the field of linguistics. Training in the knowledge of the most recent research methods and in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for language teaching, research, translation and proofreading is essential for the development of these fields and for the improvement of the quality of language researchers and professionals.

This Master’s program has a dual orientation, professional and research, which allows it to meet the interests of students in both the didactic and purely research aspects. On the one hand, it addresses the performance of professional work in an innovative way, using the available technological resources. On the other hand, it prepares students for research in the field of applied linguistics, which incorporates advances in computational linguistics.

Therefore, at the end of this Master’s Degree, students will be able to:

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the applied concepts of language and technologies.
  • Recognize a contextual framework that will make them aware of the importance of language technologies in society.
  • Recognize a conceptual framework that provides the theoretical foundations of applied linguistics.
  • Develop technical and analytical skills oriented to the approach and evaluation of linguistic products.
  • Develop creativity and encourage thinking to adapt to different language application situations.

Objectives of the degree

To train specialists with the ability to transfer research results to teaching practice and other professional environments, such as technical communication, language consultancy, translation, development and analysis of teaching materials for computer-assisted language teaching.

Internships

The Master in Languages and Technology of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia is of a research nature, so students do not need to do an internship in a company in order to complete it. However, in the case that students wish to do an internship in a company, the CAT of the Master will support this action.

Facilities and laboratories

The Department of Applied Linguistics, located in the 4P building of the Universitat Politècnica de València (floors 2, 3 and 4), has:

  • Four multimedia classrooms (A1, A2, A3 and postgraduate classroom with seating for 15, 48, 40 and 32 people, respectively), equipped with computers, headphones, projector, smart board and PA system.
  • Library.
  • Salón de Grados, where doctoral thesis and master’s thesis defenses are held, as well as congresses, conferences and seminars organized by the department.
