Access requirements

In accordance with the rules for access to official Master’s degree courses reflected in Article 16 of Royal Decree 861/2010, of July 2, 2010, which amends Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, 2007, which establishes the organization of official university education, in order to access official Master’s degree courses it will be necessary to hold an official Spanish university degree or another issued by a higher education institution belonging to another member state of the European Higher Education Area that entitles the holder to access Master’s degree courses in that country.

Likewise, graduates from educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area may be admitted without the need for the homologation of their degrees, after verification by the University that they accredit a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that they qualify in the country issuing the degree for access to postgraduate studies. Access by this route will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party, nor its recognition for purposes other than that of studying for the Master’s degree.

Students will be eligible for the Master’s Degree in Plant Breeding if they can prove that they hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Agri-Food, plant production and life sciences, including, among others, the Degree in Agri-Food and Rural Engineering, the Degree in Forestry and Natural Environment Engineering, the Degree in Biotechnology, etc., others expressly declared as equivalent. As well as the engineering and bachelor’s degrees listed below and their counterpart degrees:

  • Agricultural Engineer
  • Forestry Engineer
  • Technical Agricultural Engineer
  • Technical Engineer in Agricultural Exploitation
  • Technical Engineer in Horticulture and Gardening
  • Technical Engineer in Agricultural and Food Industries
  • Forestry Technical Engineer
  • Degree in Biotechnology
  • Degree in Biochemistry
  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences
  • Degree in Biological Sciences
  • Degree in Enology

Regarding other degrees in the above mentioned fields not included in the above list, the Master’s Academic Committee will decide whether or not to accept applicants for the Master’s Degree in Plant Breeding.

Admission for disabled students

For students with specific educational needs arising from a disability, appropriate support and counseling services will be established to assess the needs of curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies, through the support of the CEDAT Foundation of the UPV.

The CEDAT Foundation of the UPV offers information and advice to members of the university community with disabilities, as well as accompaniment and support in the classroom. In addition, it provides technical aids for study to those members of the student body who, due to their special educational needs, require it. It also promotes and manages training and employment actions for this group, both inside and outside the UPV campuses, and offers different services from its Special Employment Center.

The foundation also carries out projects for the elimination of architectural and urban barriers, comprehensive accessibility plans, accessibility audits, project reviews, advice and design of ideal accessibility models.

General information on access can be found in the Alumni Service – Access

Admission criteria

The maximum number of students admitted to the Master in Plant Breeding will be 25. Prior to the start of the enrollment period, a pre-enrollment period for the Master will be opened.

In the event that the enrollment applications are higher than this number, a list of pre-registered applicants will be drawn up in order of the average grade of the studies. The 25 students with the best average grade will be admitted and, in case of conflict, it will be considered an additional merit to have carried out experimental work in their TFG or TFC related to plant breeding.

The rest of the applicants will be placed on a waiting list, from which the remaining students will be placed on a waiting list to be filled from among the previously admitted students.

Decisions on final admission to the Master’s program are made by the Master’s Academic Committee at the proposal of the Head of Studies of the Master’s program. Admission will be carried out by agreement of the Master’s Academic Committee.

The composition of the academic committee will follow the current UPV regulations. At present it must be composed of:

  • The Director of the ERT, who shall act as chairman.
  • Deputy Director or Head of Studies, who shall act as Secretary.
  • Academic Director of the Degree.
  • Four professors who teach in the degree, from different departments with teaching in the same and who have at least two teaching periods positively evaluated.
  • Two students.
  • The head of administrative services.
