The Valencian Telecommunications Night celebrated its 25th edition in style, with the slogan 'Creating the future, connecting people'. The annual reference event for the 'telecoms' sector in the Valencia Region met once again in its 'inseparable' Hemisfèric of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, a venue that has hosted the vast majority of these awards since 1998. On this occasion, they managed to bring together more than 500 people and 37 sponsoring companies, the best figures in the history of this event, organised by the Generalitat Valenciana, Valencia City Council, the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers of the Valencia Region (COITCV), the Valencian Association of Telecommunications Engineers (AVIT) and the School of Telecommunications Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València (ETSIT-UPV).
Specifically, this edition was attended by Ruth Merino, Councillor for Finance, Economy and Public Administration of the Generalitat Valenciana, as well as Spokesperson of the Consell; María José Catalá, Mayor of Valencia; Emilia Selva, Regional Secretary for Public Administration; María Esther Gómez, Regional Secretary for Universities; Jerónimo Mora, Regional Secretary for Innovation; Paula Llobet, Councillor for Tourism, Innovation and Investment of the City Council of Valencia; José Esteban Capilla, Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València; Marta Balenciaga, Dean of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers; Sergio Riolobos, President of the Valencian Association of Telecommunications Engineers (AVIT) and Dean of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers of the Valencian Community (COITCV); or Héctor Esteban, Director of the School of Telecommunications Engineering, among others.
The awards of the Valencian Telecommunications Night, which recognise entrepreneurship, innovative ideas and the latest technologies in the communications sector, fell on this occasion to Raúl Torres, CEO and co-founder of PLD Space and 'father' of the Spanish rocket Miura 1, who received the Teleco Honoris Causa award; José Manuel García Duarte, General Director of Information and Communications Technologies of the Generalitat Valenciana since 2019, the Outstanding Person of the sector; ISECO, the Relevant Company; the City Council of Alicante, the Public Administration Impeller of ICT; and Raúl Cervera, the Best Master's Thesis (Master's Thesis).
The winners received a replica of the Telecommunications Tower of Valencia, which crowns the old Post and Telegraph building in Valencia's Town Hall Square, also celebrating its centenary this year.
Precisely, on Thursday morning, the Palacio de las Comunicaciones de Valencia -where the Telecommunications Tower is located-hosted a series of lectures and debates on the current telecommunications landscape and its evolution over the last quarter of a century.
The first was the 'Creating the future' round table, with the participation of executives from relevant companies in the sector, such as José Manuel Plaza, Regional Director of Telefónica in the Valencian Community; Artur Gradolí, Enterprise Account Manager Valencia-Murcia of HPE, Raúl Juanes, Director of the Levante Agency at Sopra Steria; Laura Castaño, CSO of Kio Networks; and Vicente Javier García, PM & Healthcare IT Consultant of Dextromédica.
Secondly, the 'Connecting people' round table highlighted the infinite potential of telecommunications due to its cross-curricular nature to improve many sectors and industries, but above all, to enhance and transform societies. The debate was attended by Armando López, territorial manager of Institutional Relations of Orange; José Carlos Morán, territorial manager of Huawei; Ignacio Martos, director of Public Administrations of Levante de Minsait; Francisco García, director of Business Development of Altum Proyectos - Modi; and Jordi Juan Huget, manager of NTT Data.
Finally, Antonio Vera, from PLD Space -the company managed by the winner of the 'Teleco Honoris Causa' award-gave a presentation on the recent success of the Miura-1 and the upcoming challenge of the Miura-5, which undoubtedly promises to be one of the milestones called to revolutionise the sector.
The Valencian Telecommunications Night (NTV) is the most important event of the telecommunications and digital technologies sector in the Valencian Community, with an average of 20 sponsoring companies and more than 50 registered companies, bringing together more than 400 professionals and counting on the institutional support and assistance of sector associations, technological institutes, universities, public bodies and other participating entities.
NTV is backed by the results and experience of the 24 previous editions, with a resounding success in terms of attendance and always at the forefront of technological news. One of its main objectives is to give a voice to the most relevant companies in the sector so that they can indicate the keys and strategies to be taken into account in order to reduce the digital divide.
