Diana Morant, who holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has been reappointed by the Spanish Government as Minister of Science, adding Universities to her portfolio.

On taking up her post as Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, she assured that she would work to ensure that "knowledge serves as a lever for the modernisation of the country". Morant has committed to the university community to work together for excellence "to ensure that social, educational and scientific progress reaches every part of our country".

Closeness with the UPV

Diana Morant has always maintained a close relationship with the Universitat Politècnica de València, the university where she trained as an engineer and where she says she learned to "find the best solution to complex problems".

She was mayor of Gandia from 2015 to 2021. From this position of responsibility, she promoted various academic, scientific, cultural and knowledge transfer initiatives in collaboration with the university campus that the UPV has in this city.

Positive assessment

Prof. Dr. José E. Capilla, Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València and President of Rectors of Valencian Public Universities (CRUPV), attended the traditional transfer of ministerial portfolios: "From the Valencian public universities we value very positively the appointment of Diana Morant as Minister of Science and Universities. She has an enormous knowledge of the Valencian system and has demonstrated a successful science management in Spain".

"On the other hand, the combination of science and universities in the same ministerial portfolio is excellent news.

We see this appointment as an opportunity to face the important challenges of the public university system in the development Organic Law of the University System. And we are at her disposal to work together to strengthen higher education and scientific research in the Valencian Community and throughout Spain".
