The QS World University Rankings 2025 has again recognised the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) among the top 500 universities worldwide, marking its 13th consecutive year in this prestigious list. Specifically, the institution, currently led by Prof. Dr José E. Capilla, is ranked 436th, improving 40 places over the previous edition.
This is confirmed by the latest edition of the prestigious ranking, prepared by the consultancy firm Quacquarelli Symonds, which, after assessing a total of 5,663 institutions from 106 countries, highlights the UPV in terms of sustainability (178th), international research networks (248th) and academic reputation (335th), as well as including it in the top 10 at national level in terms of appointments per school, student-faculty ratio, sustainability and international students.
Quacquarelli Symonds considers nine indicators of higher education institutions in its rankings: academic reputation, international research networks, student-faculty ratio, sustainability, ratio of international students and academic staff, citations per school, business reputation and job opportunities.
In addition to the QS World University Rankings, published annually since 2004, Quacquarelli Symonds also produces its annual university rankings by subject.
In its latest edition, published last April, QS distinguished the UPV in a total of 17 disciplines, making it the best university in Spain and the top 60 internationally to study Agricultural and Forest Engineering, as well as the national leader in Art and Design, and placing it in the top 200 worldwide in up to 9 subjects.
Specifically, in addition to these two subjects, UPV is among the top 200 universities in the world for QS in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Statistics and Operations Research, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Materials Science.
This result joins those obtained by the UPV in the other two main university rankings: ARWU (popularly known as the Shanghai ranking) and THE.
In its latest edition, Times Higher Education recognises UPV as one of the 200 universities with the most significant social and economic impact in the world, the 7th best university for SDG 8 ("Decent work and economic growth"), 20th for SDG 13 ("Climate action") and 45th for SDG 4 ("Quality education").
For its part, the ARWU is considered the most prestigious international ranking, highlights UPV as the best technological in Spain, and includes it, for the 19th year running, in its global ranking of the 500 most important universities worldwide.
