Dear University Community:
We hope you and your family and friends are well after the severe flooding caused by the DANA, which has deeply affected our community. We are aware of the severity of what has happened, and we know that some of you have suffered material and/or personal losses. Please know that you have our university community's full support and solidarity.
As you know, everyone's health and well-being are our priorities. We are facing a difficult time and will have to try to return to normality. We thank you for your understanding and flexibility in this complex situation.
The Generalitat Valenciana has informed the Valencian universities about the estimated timing for the recovery of the public transport network over the next few weeks. To help alleviate the pressure on the transport infrastructure and services network in the current critical situation, they request to restrict the use of private vehicles and avoid public transport for journeys that can be made on foot, bicycle or scooter.
To this end, the Generalitat Valenciana has informed the universities with campuses located in the province of Valencia, especially in the metropolitan area of Valencia, of the need to adopt an online teaching modality up to and including 5 December. Given this requirement from the Generalitat Valenciana, we would like to inform you of the steps we are taking to ensure academic continuity for our students, adapting and following, at all times, the recommendations made to us by the authorities.
We plan to continue teaching on all three campuses from Monday, 11 November.
On the Vera and Gandia campuses, teaching will be exclusively online, avoiding using private vehicles and, as far as possible, avoiding using public transport for all those journeys that can be made on foot, by bicycle or scooter to access both campuses. The online training will be maintained until 5 December, including for the Vera campus, while the Gandia campus will review the situation every week.
At the Alcoi campus, teaching can be given in the classroom, always with online broadcasting to cater to the situation of the students concerned, or fully online if the academic staff are unable to travel.
The University will continue to offer study spaces in the libraries and sports services, avoiding the need to travel by private car.
We are aware that a large number of lecturers and students are still facing difficulties, not only with mobility but also with connectivity and emotional difficulties, so we ask you to enable the TEAMS recording of the classes so that the affected students can follow them in a non-synchronous way. Given this exceptional situation, it is crucial that students have the recordings and the necessary material so that they can continue their training as soon as they are able to do so (1).
The Vice-Rectorate for Faculty and Academic Planning, in coordination with the departments, will be responsible for making up for the teaching work with other available staff whenever possible or with additional resources that may be needed, cancelling the classes of the affected teaching staff if there is no possibility of substitution that guarantees the quality of the training given.
As for the assessment tests that require attendance, they can be retaken as of 9 December.
It should be borne in mind that the longer they can be delayed, the easier it will be to access the campuses, given that the level of presence of each test foreseen in the teaching guides of each course will be maintained.
The heads of each ERT are already working on reorganising assessment and exam timetables, which will be adjusted to each group and class, always considering the student's needs. Specific details of these changes will be communicated to you shortly.
If students cannot attend the scheduled assessment events due to the effects of the DANA, they shall be entitled to a postponement of the assessment events(2).
The affected students must submit a written request to the Director or Dean of the Structure Responsible for the Degree (ERT) in the terms each ERT indicates. Except for unforeseen circumstances, this request must be submitted before the assessment event. This request must state the reasons for the request and provide documentary evidence of such reasons. The ERT management shall assess the circumstances the interested parties put forward and decide whether or not to authorise the postponement.
If the decision is favourable, this decision will be communicated to the student and the lecturer responsible for the course. As a general rule, the student authorised to postpone the exam will attend the make-up exam corresponding to the postponed assessment unless otherwise agreed.
Suppose they do not manage to pass this test. In that case, a new date will be agreed upon between the academic staff and the affected students for the recovery of the same, which will have to be agreed upon between the academic staff and the affected students.
The authorities request to avoid using private vehicles and, as far as possible, avoid using public transport for all journeys that can be made on foot, by bicycle or scooter. Thus, the work activity must guarantee service provision, minimising the traffic generated. The CDIS managers will receive instructions concerning the situation and will be able to make the conditions for teleworking more flexible. The flexibility conditions already announced for the staff concerned remain in force.
Work on the Alcoi campus will continue as usual, except for those affected by the catastrophe.
Research staff will be able to enter the research areas and laboratories whenever necessary, opting for transport on foot, scooter or bicycle whenever possible, using public transport if necessary, and avoiding using private vehicles as far as possible. In those cases where it is possible, the conditions for teleworking shall be made more flexible, always following the indications of the person in charge of the activity. The flexibility measures for the staff concerned are the same as those communicated above.
Finally, we would like to remind you that the university offers a free psychological support service for all university community members. We encourage you to use this resource or to recommend it to those students or colleagues who may need help to overcome the emotional aftermath of this difficult situation.

We greatly appreciate your flexibility and empathy at this time. We trust that, together, we will facilitate this return for the entire university community and that, as public transport and the average circulation of vehicles are restored, we will soon be able to take up face-to-face teaching.
