Academic Work

Definition

Assessment technique that includes the works completed by students, which can range from short and simple works to more extensive and complex works, the latter ones usually in the final year: end of degree projects, Master’s theses, Doctoral theses...

The works can be carried out both individually and in groups.

Purpose

  • To develop diverse skills: search and selection of information, intelligent reading, organisation and demonstration of knowledge, as well as the development of attitudes, values, interests, etc.
  • To evaluate the process of elaboration without focusing only on the product.
  • To focus on various problems and issues within the framework of the subject.
  • To allow students to monitor their own progress in both comprehension and acquisition of skills throughout the process of researching and carrying out activities.
  • Based on certain criteria, to assess the social dimension of the work by means of the judgements and arguments presented by the student.
  • To encourage the use of diverse documentary sources, information and knowledge technologies, etc.
  • To promote critical thinking.
  • To evaluate written communication skills.
