One-Minute Paper

Definition

This method consists of presenting one or two open-ended questions just minutes before the end of a class, which allows teachers to determine what the students have understood from what they have seen in class, in a given reading, article, activity, etc.

It is also possible for students themselves to generate close-ended questions.

Purpose

  • To reinforce what has been learned in classes, texts, activities, etc. It is typically an individual work in which judgments, feelings, impressions or personal reactions are expressed.
  • To identify individual or general learning difficulties in the classroom.
  • To encourage communication between the teacher, the student and the class group in general.
  • To obtain and give feedback in large groups after class and in a succinct way.
  • To reinforce knowledge of contents prior to exams.
  • To promote critical and divergent thinking.
