QS World University Rankings 2024

The UPV is in the top 500 of the world's best universities for the 12th year in a row

[ 30/06/2023 ]

Once again, for the 12th consecutive year, QS World University Rankings has once again included the Universitat Politčcnica de Valčncia (UPV) among the top 500 universities worldwide.

This is certified by the latest edition of the prestigious ranking prepared by the consultancy firm Quacquarelli Symonds, which, as in the previous eight years, is led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ahead of the universities of Cambridge and Oxford, which complete the podium.

Nine indicators

To conduct the study, Quacquarelli Symonds considers nine indicators of higher education institutions: academic reputation, international research networks, student-faculty ratio, sustainability, international student/faculty ratio, citations per school, and the importance for employers and job opportunities.

Best university in Spain to study Art and Design and Agri-Food and Forestry Engineering

In addition to the QS World University Rankings, published annually since 2004, Quacquarelli Symonds also produces its annual university rankings by subject.

In its latest edition, published last April, QS highlighted the UPV in a total of 16 disciplines, ranking it as the best university in Spain and the top 50 in the world to study Agri-Food and Forestry Engineering, as a national leader in Art and Design, and placing it in the top 200 worldwide in up to 9 subjects.

Specifically, in addition to the two mentioned above, the UPV is among the top 200 universities in the world according to QS in Architecture (top 100), Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics and Manufacturing, Statistics and Operations Research, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Materials Science.

Spain's best technical university in the Shanghai rankings

This result joins UPV's results in the other two world university rankings: ARWU (popularly known as the Shanghai ranking) and THE.

In its most recent edition, Times Higher Education recognises the UPV as one of the 200 universities with the most significant social and economic impact in the world, 7th best university on the planet in SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 20th in SDG 13 (Climate Action) and 45th in SDG 4 (Quality Education).

For its part, ARWU, considered the most prestigious international ranking, highlights UPV as the best polytechnic in Spain and includes it, for the 18th consecutive year, in its global ranking of the 500 most important universities worldwide.
