The technology of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) has military origins and has been in development for a century. These systems are present in a wide variety of versions, as they are operated for a wide variety of functions. At the beginning of this millennium, this technology was transferred to the civil sector. Since then, its evolution has been exponential, and its future prospects are even greater. Advances in aircraft design, their systems and onboard sensors mean that drones are present in practically all sectors of industry and society: land management, agriculture, industrial and energy inspections, photojournalism, logistics, security, and emergencies.
