Berta Peiró, Lucía García, and their courts of honour were the stars of the very "fallero" Monday morning at the Universitat Politècnica de València. As it is now traditional, the Falleras Mayores of Valencia have visited the UPV to kick off the fallas at the university.
The visit, hosted by the Falla Avinguda de Tarongers-Camí de Vera, the Falla of the Universitat Politècnica, has brought music, gunpowder and colour to the campus, which is already preparing for the big days of the festivities.
The 'fallera' delegation has been received in the Rector's Office by José E. Capilla, Rector of the UPV, and part of his team, who gave the guests a gift in memory of their visit to the university. Capilla has emphasised that this year will be, more than ever, the year of the rebirth of many committees and localities affected by the damage of last October, for whom he has had a special memory.
For her part, the Fallera Mayor of Valencia, Berta Peiró, has expressed her hope that 'it won't rain and that they will be wonderful days', and she has expressed her surprise at the existence of a falla on the campus itself, something she knew about but had not seen until now.
The visit has also been memorable for one of the members of the court of honour, Claudia Alsina, who is currently working at the UPV as a doctoral student, and who was particularly moved by the welcome and that feeling of 'coming home'.
After a parade through the campus, accompanied by the Grup de Dolçaina i Percussió of the UPV, a mascletá was set off next to the Student Recreation Centre, bringing together hundreds of people to start celebrating the fallas.
