2022 THE University Impact Rankings

The UPV, one of the 300 universities with the biggest social and economic impact in the world

[ 04/05/2022 ]

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is one of the 300 universities with the biggest social and economic impact in the world. This is according to the 2022 THE University Impact Rankings, the fourth edition of the table published by Times Higher Education (THE).

This ranking rates higher education institutions based on their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an initiative promoted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015.

World top 100 for 3 SDGs: quality education, innovation and infrastructure and responsible consumption and production

The 2022 THE University Impact Rankings places the institution - which is headed by José E. Capilla - in the world's top 100 universities for three of the SDGs: 4. quality education, for which the UPV ranks 73rd overall; 9. industry, innovation and infrastructures, for which it ranks 75th; and 12. responsible consumption and production, where it appears in 94th place.

Additionally, this indicator, which analysed a total of 1,524 universities from 110 countries this year, has placed the UPV in the world's top 200 for a further two SDGs: 2. zero hunger and 8. decent work and economic growth.

It should be remembered that the 17 SDGs were officially adopted on 25 September 2015, the date on which the UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in which it included 17 global goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity. They each have specific targets that must be met over the course of 15 years.

UPV, internationally recognised by all the top rankings

The table published by THE once again reaffirms the excellence of the UPV, as recognised by all top international rankings.

Indeed, in its most recent edition, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, popularly known as the Shanghai ranking), rated the UPV as the best polytechnic university in Spain, and included it, for the 17th consecutive year, in the 500 best universities in the world.

Additionally, in the most recently published QS World University Rankings (June 2021), the UPV was included in the top 400 in the world (371st), also indicating that it was the best university in the Valencian Community.
