Amparo Chiralt, Patricia Concepción Heydorn, Carmen Muñoz and Chelo González are the best researchers at the Universitat Politècnica de València, according to the ranking of Spanish Women Researchers and in Spain produced by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
In total, 198 women linked to the Universitat Politècnica de València appear in this classification, which includes 11,000 profiles of women researchers on Google Scholar with the best metric indicators, especially the h-index (which measures both their productivity and the number of citations generated by their articles published in scientific journals) and with an ORCID identifier.
The aim of this ranking is to give visibility to women researchers using a free, publicly accessible platform such as Google Scholar.
Among all the women researchers at the Universitat Politècnica de València, the one who occupies the most prominent position is Amparo Chiralt, in 31st place out of a total of 11,331 profiles. Chiralt, a professor at the UPV and a researcher at the University Institute of Food Engineering-Food UPV, has an h-index of 108 and 35,179 citations. For Amparo Chiralt, it is satisfying to see her work recognised through the citation of her studies. 'I have always been passionate about research and have tried my best. To advance as a scientist is a matter of doing the work with seriousness, effort, dedication and commitment. In research, being passionate about science and learning every day is essential. Contributing to knowledge is one of the most rewarding things in life,' said Chiralt, one of the most renowned researchers at UPV.
The top 5 best UPV women researchers included in this ranking are completed by Patricia Concepción Heydorn, in 91st place and linked to the Institute of Chemical Technology (UPV-CSIC), followed by the professor of Applied Physics Carmen Muñoz in 216th place; Chelo González in 536th place and professor and researcher focused on the field of Food Engineering and Rosa Puchades, in 580th place and whose research has focused on the field of Chemistry and Food Engineering.
The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) published its first ranking in 2022, which included 5,000 Spanish and foreign women scientists conducting research in Spanish organisations. Of these, 68 were linked to the UPV. Now, three years later, the ranking includes twice as many women researchers, and the presence of the UPV has tripled.
For Belén Picó, Vice Rector for Research and also one of the researchers recognized in this ranking, 'the UPV is the best represented Spanish polytechnic university, with 198 profiles of researchers linked to our university, in its own structures or mixed with other institutions. This representation represents a percentage increase of approximately 30% with respect to the UPV women researchers included the first time this list was published in 2022. They and many more women scientists with great potential in all professional categories, who account for about 30% of UPV researchers, are included in this list, which gives visibility to the work of Spanish women scientists and is not only important as a snapshot of the current female presence in Spanish science and the relevance of the contribution of the UPV, but also as a stimulus and motivation for new generations of women scientists'.
This ranking, promoted by a team from the Cybermetrics Laboratory of the Institute for Public Goods and Policies (IPP-CSIC), includes more than 11,000 researchers from more than 450 national and international organisations with an h-index greater than or equal to 14. This index measures the quality of the work conducted by research staff based on the number of citations their scientific articles receive (for example, a researcher has an h-index of 15 if she has at least 15 publications that have received at least 15 citations each.
